[ARCHIVED] Snow Plowing

SNOW PILE IN FRONT OF DRIVEWAY AND CUL-DE-SACS:

A fresh blanket of snow is a pretty sight for residents. The City crew has to work hard to keep City streets clean and safe.

The residents of our City have been accustomed to this outstanding service, which is committed by the Public Works Staff. It is a hard job to operate those trucks with plows and salt spreaders in such inclement weather conditions.

The cul-de-sacs are of interest just like the other streets in the City. The plow is directed to push snow to the right side as the melted liquid (from snow) has to go towards catch-basins, which are along the driveway sides. Streets clear of snow/ice help in delivering mail, delivery drivers, trash trucks, firefighters, paramedics, police and other service providers.

Snow plowed from City streets could end up blocking private driveways for some time. The City recognizes the inconvenience this causes.

Dumping snow in the circles could damage greenery, plants, and shrubs and also could pose unsafe situations by refreezing the melted snow due to inability of run-off to reach catch basins. As such the employees are advised to do the activities in a safe and harmonious manner while using chemicals with environmentally sound techniques.

To reduce this amount of snow that might block your driveway, shovel an open area along the shoulder at the entrance. Plow blades will then push snow into the area just before your driveway, leaving a much smaller amount in front of it.

We would like to request the cooperation of residents by not parking their vehicles on the road (when weather forecast is for snow/ice), so the streets can be plowed for the benefit of citizens of the City of Black Jack.

We appreciate everyone’s help in this connection.
